West Ham linked with move for Junior Firpo
West Ham United have been linked with a move for Barcelona defender Junior Firpo.
The 24-year-old left-back has fallen down the Catalan club’s pecking order, which he must leave to play regular first-team football.
According to Mundo Deportivo, West Ham is one of the clubs watching the defender.
Currently, Firpo is also a target for Inter Milan, Roma, AC Milan, Napoli and Marseille.
The Hammers have Aaron Cresswell as a starting left-back, but they lack depth in that position.
Firpo could be a great addition and he could challenge Cresswell for the team’s top spot. The increased competition would help both players improve.
In addition, the 24-year-old will be better off going compared to the Hammers star and his arrival would add a new dimension to West Ham’s left flank.
The defender has only made two starts in the Spanish League so far this season and he will desperately want to play more often.
It will be interesting to see if the Hammers come up with a concrete offer for the 24-year-old in the coming weeks.
It is evident that he is not a key player for the Catalan giants and therefore Barcelona could be open to the sale of Firpo in order to fund their own transfer business.
It remains to be seen if the Hammers can fend off competition from other European clubs and secure Firpo’s signing in the coming weeks.
