Roller coaster stops halfway and forces passengers to get off
LONDON (ANN): Theme park visitors in England surely had an unexpected thrill when the roller coaster they were riding got stuck, leaving them walking hundreds of feet to the ground.
Tourists got stuck atop The Big One in Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which is the UK’s tallest roller coaster. Park staff were forced to ride the roller coaster themselves and guide visitors to safety by taking them down the ride, according to the Lancashire Telegraph on April 25.
The incident was also captured by some park visitors who praised the staff for their response to the crash.
“Oh my God, Big One stopped right at [the] top today 12-ish and the staff had to get everyone down to safety. Well done. I think I would have been really scared, ”said Margaret Summers, a visitor to the park, in a public Facebook group the same day.
She also showed video of people getting off the ride as she captured the incident from the ground. The roller coaster was sent down its track a few times after passengers left the ride, Summers added.
A woman trapped during the ride (@geo_connor) also showed a series of videos about the incident on her TikTok page.
In one of the videos, the ride’s “200 feet” sign can be seen next to her while another video shows her descending a steel staircase from the top of the roller coaster.
The Big One was considered the world’s tallest roller coaster at 65 meters when it opened in 1994, until a new record was set by Japanese mountain Fujiyama which stands 71 meters high. – Philippine Daily Inquirer / Asia News Network
