An unidentified number of NYPD cops have been placed on modified duty and their weapons confiscated after ‘several’ officers were caught stealing and drinking alcohol while on duty during a a music festival on Labor Day weekend. The New York Post confirmed news on Tuesday that three officers from the Manhattan North Narcotics Unit had been assigned to modified or reassigned duties after the Electric Zoo music festival on Randalls Island, but the exact number has not been confirmed. The New York Daily News reported that the three cops are unit detectives. Several other officers, including a supervising lieutenant, also suffered the same fate. According to Daily News, “The cops were assigned to the Electric Zoo concert between September 2 and 4 when at least one of them slipped a bottle of alcohol and started passing it to his co-workers, said a law enforcement source with knowledge of the matter.” When another supervisor heard of the shenanigans, he immediately reported the incident to the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, the NYPD said. “These are troubling allegations,” an NYPD statement said. is working closely with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. To date, several supervisors and officers, who are the subject of these allegations, have been placed on modified duty.
