Marcella Frazier, Obituary 1923-2021 – Columbia Daily Tribune
Marcella (Marty) Ann Summers Frazier, 98, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2021 at Cedarhurst Senior Living.
She was born on January 29, 1923, in the Higginsville, Missouri, home of John T. Summers, a coal miner, and Agnes Gossett Summers, a housewife, midwife and licensed practical nurse. She graduated from St. Theresa’s Academy in Kansas City, Missouri and left the nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City after her third year to marry Paul Wilson Frazier in 1944 after being injured. during the invasion of Normandy.
As the wife of a career naval officer, she followed Paul across the country, settling in Newport, Rhode Island, Los Angeles, California, Brooklyn, New York, Higginsville, Missouri, Annandale, Virginia, St. Louis, Missouri and Columbia, Missouri. After her retirement, she and her husband lived in Pine Bluff, Arkansas before returning to Columbia, Missouri to be near their family.
She is predeceased by her husband, Paul W. Frazier; his son, John Frazier; and his grandson, Jason Frazier. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Frazier of Columbia, Missouri; Gloria Frazier of Columbia, the widow of her son, John; his son, Duncan Frazier and his wife, Cheryl d’Anacortes, Washington; and his son, Patrick Frazier and his wife, LeAnn of Centralia, Missouri.
In addition to her children, she leaves behind seven living grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren with another on the way and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 105 Waugh St., Columbia, MO 65201 on April 22 at noon, with the placement of the urn at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO 65202 to be continued.
