Joanne D. Noonen
May 2, 1928 –
April 27, 2021
Joanne D. Noonen, 92, of Meadville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
Joanne was born in McKeesport on May 2, 1928, daughter of the late Grace (Tiernan) Carnahan and Joseph Desent.
On May 16, 1953, Joanne married Richard J. Noonen; he survives.
She was an active member of the St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She volunteered for the fish dinners, worked the funeral lunches, and served as a greeting in church.
A 1946 graduate from McKeesport High School, Joanne received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the Drexel Institute of Technology. Shortly thereafter, Joanne became employed by the Meadville office of Penn State Cooperative Extension as a home economist. She made the transition to teaching physical education at the old Randolph School in Guys Mills until the birth of her daughters. In 1968, the family moved to Hornell, NY, due to her husband’s employment. She became a professor of home economics in Canaseraga, NY, before transferring to Hornell Middle School and retiring in 1985 from the Hornell School District. For many years, Joanne delivered meals on wheels and served as a baked and canned goods judge for the Home Show Building # 1 at the Crawford County Fair. Joanne loved spending the summers at the family cottage at Loon Lake in Wayland, New York. Whether cooking, baking or canning, Joanne loved being in the kitchen. The family vacations especially showcased her cooking skills, and Joanne looked forward to the celebrations with laughs and good times. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family very much. I will miss her terribly.
In addition to her husband, Richard, 67, Joanne is survived by two daughters Dr. Ann Noonen of Meadville, Mary Carol Scrocco (Ret. Col. Raymond K.) of Clarence Center, NY; two grandchildren Kelly Ann Scrocco, RN in Boston, MA, and John Raymond Scrocco, student at Georgetown University.
