How many cities in New York State do not sell alcohol?

Kinda hard to believe that there are still cities sticking to old prohibition-era laws in 2022. But they still exist in some parts of the state. According to the latest update of a state database, there are at least seven cities in New York State that are still completely dry. You may need to open Google Maps to find some of these towns, as they are quite small.

New York City repeals 86-year-old law

A city outside Albany didn’t repeal its dry laws until November 2019. The city of Argyle, Washington County, finally voted that year to repeal a dated liquor ban. to 1933. It wasn’t even their first attempt to repeal the old law either. Argyle residents had tried to repeal the ban 11 times before, with the most recent vote before 2019 being in 2000. For many years the town of 3,700 didn’t sell alcohol in any of its shops, restaurants or bars. Nothing.

New York’s Dry Towns

Where are the other dry towns? The database lists the towns of Caneadea, Clymer, Lapeer, Orwell, Fremont and Jasper as completely dry. The town of Berkshire is also still listed, although Syracuse.com says that they may have relaxed some of their laws in recent years. The database also lists about 45 other cities that have partial (or partially dry) bans, where alcohol may be served in restaurants, but may not be sold in stores, or vice versa.

The last city to reverse a full ban was actually Neversink in 2015.

How much beer does the state drink?

It’s no secret that New Yorkers drink a lot of beer. With an abundance of brews available and more brews popping up every year, there are always plenty of options for your next drink. But how much beer does the state actually produce in any given year? How much compared to other states? How many breweries does the Empire State have? This might give you some tips and hopefully point you in the right direction when planning your next beer tour.

The most popular beers in the country

world population review says there are over 8,000 breweries across the country. The major well-known breweries remain at the top of the list when it comes to beer sold in the United States 1. Bud Light 2. Coors Light 3. Miller Light. However, craft breweries continue to grow exponentially in the United States, with the number of craft brew barrels shipped jumping from 9.1 million in 2008 to 25.9 million in 2018. That’s a pretty huge leap, and the number is only increasing.

Not surprisingly, California leads the nation in the states with most breweries with 907. New York ranks 3rd, just behind Colorado, with 423 total breweries. Pennsylvania is 5th, Massachusetts 17th, New Jersey 20th. Connection 26th. This is the total number of breweries, so if you break it down per capita, some of the less populated states would appear higher.

So how many barrels does New York produce?

According to the World Population Review, New York State produces 1,347,435 barrels of beer per year.
