On Sunday, May 2, 2021, Gay Lefebvre, 82, a loving wife and mother passed away in Southport, North Carolina. She was born on November 15, 1938 in Middletown, CT to Ruth and Carl Byloff. Gay graduated from East Hampton High School, East Hampton CT, where she met her beloved 60-year-old husband Richard H. Lefebvre and they raised two daughters in Johnstown, NY.
Gay was a gifted artist and teacher. With two young children at home, she returned to school and graduated with honors from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY in 1976. With over 30 years as an educator, Gay majored part of her career as a high school art teacher and chair of the arts department of the Fonda-Fultonville central school district. She loved teaching and making an impact on the lives of young people. She was known for her attentive ear, fiery wit, and frank speech with her students. She was a tenacious champion for those who needed her most. After his retirement, Gay continued his career as a professional wildlife artist and his art has been exhibited and sold in many reputable galleries on the East Coast. Her spirit will live on through the lives of the students she touched and her incredible works of art which are held in many private collections across the country.
Gay was a member of several art guilds, supported the artist community in and around his home in Southport, NC, and enjoyed his summers in York Beach, ME. She was an avid reader, avid traveler, talented gardener and always interested in political and current events at the local and national levels.
Preceded to death by his mother, Ruth Byloff, his father. Carl Byloff and his sister, Carol Dulaney, Gay is survived by her beloved husband, Richard; daughters, Kim and Ann (Mika); and his grandchildren, Wesley, Dana and Nathan; as well as other extended family members and longtime friends.
