Head to the scenic Derwent Valley for a hand-pumped pint at two meters high. The ‘farm bar’ sits at the end of an unassuming country lane surrounded by idyllic farmland and a few decorative hop vines. One of Australia’s first breweries to really explore wild, funky and sour ferments, it now brews a range of farmhouse ales and ciders throughout the year, including seasonal specialties and a dry, sparkling mead.
Ingredients are sourced from their own sustainable local farm and carefully selected growers across Tasmania. If spontaneous fermentation and sustainable practices are your thing, stop by for free tastings and a pint, bring a picnic and settle in for an afternoon. Driver recommended.
GO WHISKEY DEEP AT THE CALLINGTON MILL DISTILLERY SERENDIPITY EXPERIENCE
The quaint historic town of Oatlands is now home to a new distillery. On the grounds of the former Callington Mill, this architecturally designed space is the “Rolls-Royce of whiskey distilleries” and is already home to award-winning drops. In the huge barrel room of the Callington Mill Distilleryyou will taste five cask strength premium whiskeys, including a cask of Australian brandy and an ex-muscadelle bourbon.

Southern Wild Distillery managed to create something truly distinctive with Gins Dasher + Fisher. The distillery embraces what is unique about Tasmanian landscapes and features small local producers, capturing the seasonality, personality and – of course – the spirit Of the place. Take a tour of the distillery and explore different regions of Tasmania with the tasting flight.
Mountain Gin’s botanicals include peppery berries and Cradle Mountain herbs with eucalyptus and rosemary, with a refreshing result akin to an alpine walk in wet weather. Meadow Gin distills the essence of Tasmanian gardens with herbs, flowers and seasonal oranges. The tasty Ocean Gin strain uses wakame seaweed harvested from the Tasman Sea as its botanical hero.
