Children’s weight loss camp in Kent ends with history of violations
In South Kent, Connecticut, a children’s weight loss camp suddenly closed last week, but why the camp closed is in question. According to an article in US News & World Reports, Camp Shane is located at South Kent School but is not associated with the school.
Kent School has terminated all contractual agreements with Camp Shane, saying the camp is under investigation by the State Childhood Office and the State Department of Children and Families . “Due to concerns about the health, safety and well-being of children enrolled in the youth summer camp.” “
According to David Ettenberg, the camp owner told Hearst Connecticut Media that the closure was due in part to 10 councilors resigning, leaving only eight, making it impossible for the camp to function properly.
According to nbcconnecticut.com, the weekend before the weight loss camp closed on Tuesday, July 13, 8-year-old Katarina Guarrera was seriously injured when she fell while playing soccer on a tennis court. Hearst Connecticut Media received the incident report from the camp which stated: “One of the counselors was watching the children play and heard a noise.”
An ambulance was called and Katarina was rushed to the Danbury Hospitals Trauma Center, where it was determined that she had suffered a fractured skull and orbit, a broken nose and a concussion .
As her condition worsened, she was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York. As of yet, there has been no update on Katarina’s condition as the ongoing Camp Shane investigation continues.

On the shores of the 55-acre body of water were laboratories carrying out experiments using uranium and plutonium. The lake is accessible to anyone walking the Appalachian Trail in Dutchess County, but should they?
