Jinanggoon added that some citizens also want to be healthy, while some people’s incomes are lower, so they need to exercise restraint.

The NESDC, however, wants both behaviors to be closely monitored.

Alcohol consumption could reduce self-control, which multiplies by two to three the risk of being infected with Covid-19. It also increases the risk of severe symptoms or death for people infected with Covid-19. Those who drink continuously could suffer from non-communicable diseases, the NESDC has warned.

The NESDC also wants scrutiny of e-cigarettes. This could give smokers a double addiction, with even worse consequences for their health. It could be risky for smokers to suffer from brain fog syndrome, especially for people who smoke e-cigarettes before the age of 14. Therefore, e-cigarettes need to be studied in all aspects before they are legalized, the NESDC said, adding that some measures are needed to reduce new smokers and health risks.
